The aim of this study is to design and construct a sustainable aquaponics system incorporating Trout (onchynous mykiss) and Lettuce( latuca satvia) within 2.6 x 5.0 meters using a set amount of equipment. This trial will be conducted over 6 months by 3 aquaculture diploma students at Great Southern Tafe Albany W.A. The trial is spilt in to three sections each containing different trout stocking densities which will be monitored for growth and efficiency. Our experiment will be monitored regularly for optimum health and performance. We have set in place, procedures and standards that will be maintained through out the experiment. Each of the three systems contains two raceways, 3 lengths of 2.6 meters of white plastic down pipe, 200litre Bio filter, 150litre sump, and a submersible pump. We are using three different stocking densities, one contains no trout and has been called the "control" tank, the second has a trout stocking density of 5kgs per meter cubed and the third has a stocking density of 10kgs per metre cubed. Our stocking for lettuces is one every 15 centimetres along the down water pipe.
